This was a new race for 2016, based loosely on a previous route that last ran about 10 years ago. It is part of the Black Combe Country Fair from the showground in Bootle, this is a really popular show with more than 3000 attending in 2015 (see link to show website below). The route heads through farmland onto the fell, up and down Black Combe and back the same way. The downhill should be fast and great fun, possibly rivalling the last downhill of the March Black Combe race. The race is free entry, following the £5 entry on the day to the show.
From 2017 there will also be a junior/novice race of about 7km and 180m climb, with a minimum age of 14
Course
From the showfield, there will be a road crossing out and back. Please follow marshals' instructions.
The course is marked across farmland, this route is compulsory, please DON'T recce across this land as it is not a public right of way, access to the fell can be gained a little further south from Bootle village if you want to check the course beforehand.
Beyond the top gate, the course will be marked (at least for the first year) to a stile giving access to the fell - the marking is advisory for this section, if you can find a better route then please do.
The junior race will follow the same course to checkpoint 1 and turn and follow the same route back. The course will be marked. All junior runners will need a completed parental consent form (these will be available at the race).
